What this medicine is for
This medicine contains paracetamol, which acts to relieve mild to moderate pain, and reduce fever in children.
It can be used to relieve the symptoms of colds, flu, headache, toothache, other pains, and to reduce a fever.
Before you give this medicine
Do not give with any other paracetamol-containing products.
Immediate medical advice should be sought in the event of an overdose, even if the child seems well, because of the risk of delayed, serious liver damage.
Do not give:
If your child is allergic to any of the ingredients
If your child is under 1 year, unless your doctor tells you to
If your child has an intolerance to some sugars, unless your doctor tells you to (this medicine contains sorbitol)
Talk to your pharmacist or doctor:
- If your child has liver or kidney problems
- If your child takes other medicines - metoclopramide or domperidone (for feeling sick), colestyramine (to reduce blood fat levels), warfarin or other blood thinners, barbiturates or other medicines for epilepsy, tricyclic antidepressants
Information about some of the ingredients:
Sorbitol may have a mild laxative effect.
Methyl hydroxybenzoate (E218) may cause allergic reactions (possibly delayed).
Information for people with diabetes: This medicine contains 1.1 g of sorbitol per 5 ml spoonful. This provides 3 kcal per 5 ml spoonful.
Information for adults intending to take this medicine
All of the information on this carton will apply to you as well. This medicine may be harmful if you have alcoholic liver disease. Do not drink alcohol (wine, beer, spirits) whilst taking this medicine. Oral contraceptives may reduce the pain relief obtained with this medicine.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding: Do not take, unless your pharmacist or doctor tells you to.
How to give this medicine
Check the cap seal is not broken before first use. If it is, do not give the medicine.
Shake the bottle thoroughly before use. Use the measuring spoon provided (the small end measures 2.5 ml and the big end measures 5 ml).
Adults and children of 12 years and over
10 ml to 20 ml - Every 4 to 6 hours, if you need to, up to 4 times in 24 hours
6 to 11 years
5 ml to 10 ml - Every 4 to 6 hours, if you need to, up to 4 times in 24 hours
1 to 5 years
2.5 ml to 5 ml - Every 4 to 6 hours, if you need to, up to 4 times in 24 hours
- Don't give more than 4 times in any 24 hours
Give this medicine to your child to swallow.
Do not give for more than 3 days, unless your doctor tells you to.
Do not give to children under 1 year, unless your doctor tells you to.
Do not exceed the stated dose.
If symptoms persist consult your doctor.
Possible side effects
Most people will not have problems, but some may get some.
If your child gets any of these serious side effects, stop giving the medicine.
See a doctor at once:
- Difficulty in breathing, swelling of the face, neck, tongue or throat (severe allergic reactions)
These other side effects are less serious. If they bother your child talk to a pharmacist:
- Skin rash
- Unusual bruising, or infections such as sore throats - this may be a sign of very rare changes in the blood
If any side effect becomes severe, or you notice any side effect not listed here, please tell your pharmacist or doctor.
How to store this medicine
Keep tightly closed. Do not store above 25°C.
Keep all medicines out of the sight and reach of children.
Use by the date on the end flap of the carton.
Active ingredient
Each 5 ml of oral suspension contains Paracetamol 250 mg.
Also contains: purified water, sorbitol (E420), glycerol (E422), microcrystalline cellulose, carmellose sodium, methyl hydroxybenzoate (E218), acesulfame potassium, hyetellose, flavours (strawberry containing benzyl alcohol, ethyl benzoate, propylene glycol: cream containing propylene glycol).
